350 miles for a mission

About the Race:
The Iditarod Invitational is the World's Longest Human Powered Winter Race This is a No Frills, Limited Support Race put on by Racers for Racers. There are three categories: bike, foot or ski. The race is limited to 50 people, of which less than 15% will be traveling by foot. Kami and Diane will be running 350 miles together as a team with a goal of finishing in 8 days or less. Each racer is responsible for carrying their own survival gear. For Kami and Diane, this means pulling 40lb sleds.

Our Goal: To get to McGrath with all of our fingers and toes, have fun, and make conservative decisions that we hope will bring us into McGrath (?) in 7 days or less. Extreme weather will add days onto that estimate. That's about 50 miles a day, pulling 40 lb sleds with our survival gear. Along the way, we expect to encounter moose, bison, temperatures as low as -60 below, hurricane force winds, and the short days of winter. We also expect to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and hopefully a lot of frozen rivers.

In 2005, Diane made it 260 miles before she fell into a snow covered moose hole, broke her ankle, and strained her groin.
